Xiangyang launches first rail-sea intermodal freight train to Southeast Asia
2025-09-03

A rail-sea intermodal train carrying 66 TEUs of cargo departed from Xiangyang City of Hubei Province, on April 31, 2025. The cargo will be transported to Xiamen Port by rail and then transferred to Southeast Asian countries by sea.

Since its first rail-sea intermodal route launched in 2012, Xiangyang has continuously expanded its multimodal transport network. It has opened the Xiangyang-Europe freight trains and routes to Ningbo, Yantian, Qinzhou, and Nansha, effectively promoting the integration of the region into the Belt and Road Initiative and the Yangtze River Economic Belt.

Statistics show that from January to July this year, Xiangyang transported a total of 2,458 TEUs of cargo via its three operational rail-sea intermodal routes, marking a year-on-year increase of 140 percent. (en.hubei.gov.cn by Ruan Xinqi)
